Suppliers and the Vendor field
StockDigest uses each product’s Vendor field as its supplier, and you can set a different supplier for any product in StockDigest’s Settings.
There’s nothing to set up if your Vendor field already holds the supplier’s name. If it holds something else, such as a brand, you can give those products their own supplier in StockDigest without changing anything in Shopify.
Where the supplier name comes from
StockDigest uses the first of these that’s filled in:
- The Supplier set for the product in StockDigest’s Product overrides.
- The product’s Vendor field in Shopify.
- “No supplier”, if both are empty.
A change to the Vendor field shows on the Dashboard the next time you open it, and in the email from the next digest.
Where suppliers show up
- Dashboard: products that need attention are grouped by supplier, one table each, so you can see what to order from whom.
- Digest history: past digests are grouped the same way.
- Not selling: the list has a Supplier column.
- Today’s highlights: when two or more products from one supplier need reordering, the AI summary can suggest one order to that supplier. Products with no supplier are left out of this. See AI highlights.
The email itself lists products by urgency, not by supplier. Open the Dashboard to see them grouped.
Set a different supplier for a product
- Go to Settings and scroll to Product overrides.
- Click Add products and choose the product. Each variant gets its own row, so set the supplier on each one.
- Type the name in Supplier (up to 100 characters). While it’s empty, the field shows “Product’s vendor”, which is what’s used.
- Click Save.
To go back to the Vendor field, clear Supplier and save. Remove takes the product off the list, so it uses the Vendor field and the store settings again.
Write each supplier’s name the same way every time, here and in the Vendor field. Products are grouped by the exact name, so “Tidewater Goods” and “Tidewater goods” become two groups.
Lead time per supplier
There’s no lead-time setting per supplier. Lead time is set for the whole store (Supplier lead time) or per product (Lead time in Product overrides). If one supplier is slower than the rest, add its products to Product overrides and give them a longer lead time. More in lead time, cover days and the low-stock level.
Suppliers on Shopify purchase orders
StockDigest reads only the Vendor field. It doesn’t read the suppliers on your Shopify purchase orders. Stock from a purchase order counts as on the way once its transfer is marked in transit: see stock on the way.
