Stock per location (Pro)
On Pro stores with two or more locations, StockDigest also flags products running out at one location and suggests moving stock from another.
StockDigest’s main forecast adds up stock across all your locations. On the Pro plan, stores with 2 or more locations also get a forecast for each location, so a product running out at one location is flagged even when the store as a whole has plenty. Where another location can spare stock, StockDigest suggests moving it.
Where you see it
- The By location section on the dashboard, with each product’s location, status, stock there, days left and what to do.
- A By location section in the daily digest email (up to 10 lines, then a count of the rest), and in each saved digest in Digest history.
- Instant alerts, if they’re on.
It needs the Pro plan and at least 2 active locations that hold stock. Stores with one location see no difference.
Where a sale counts
To forecast per location, StockDigest needs to know where each sale happened. The app explains it like this:
Per-location forecasts use each location’s sales: orders count where they shipped from, or where they were created (in store or in the admin). Online orders that haven’t shipped, or shipped from several locations, count toward the whole store only. Only products that sold at a location in the last 28 days are listed there.
Every sale still counts in the store-wide forecast.
How each location’s status works
Each location gets the same calculation as the store, using its own stock and its own sales. Sales per day is half the 28-day average plus half the 7-day average, and days left is the stock there divided by sales per day. Status goes by days left only:
| Status | At that location |
|---|---|
| Out of stock | None left. |
| Runs out before restock | Days left at or below the product’s lead time. |
| Low | Days left at or below the lead time plus 7 days. |
The store’s low-stock level isn’t used here. It’s a store-wide number, and applied to each location it would flag most products at a small location.
Only products that sold at a location in the last 28 days get a line there. An empty shelf for something that doesn’t sell at that location isn’t news.
Transfer suggestions
For each line, StockDigest looks for another location with stock to spare: more than that location needs for its own sales over the lead time plus cover days. It picks the location with the most to spare and suggests moving enough to bring the short location up to your cover days of sales, or as much as can be spared if that’s less. The line then reads, for example, “Move 6 from Warehouse”.
If no location has stock to spare, the line says “Reorder”. StockDigest only suggests transfers; you create them in Shopify.
Leaving locations out
In Settings, the Locations section lists your active locations that hold stock, all ticked to start with. Untick any you don’t need to hear about, such as a returns location. Unticked locations get no lines in the digest and no alerts, but they can still be suggested as the place to move stock from.
When you upgrade to Pro
StockDigest keeps sales per location only for Pro stores with 2 or more locations. When you upgrade and Shopify sends you back to the app, it re-imports the last 60 days of sales, so each location has history from the start. If you add a second location while already on Pro, sales per location are collected from then on.
