How stock on the way is counted
StockDigest counts stock as on the way only once a transfer is marked in transit, and takes it off the reorder amount without hiding the product.
StockDigest reads Shopify’s incoming quantity for each variant, added up across your locations. Shopify adds a transfer to that quantity once the transfer is marked in transit, not before.
What counts and what doesn’t
| In Shopify | Counts as on the way |
|---|---|
| A transfer marked in transit | Yes |
| A transfer not yet marked in transit | No |
| A purchase order marked as ordered, with no transfer in transit | No |
| A purchase order whose transfer is marked in transit | Yes |
Purchase orders
A purchase order adds nothing on its own, even after you mark it as ordered. It counts once you create its transfer in Shopify and mark that transfer in transit. To have an order count while it’s being shipped, mark its transfer in transit when the supplier ships it. StockDigest doesn’t read purchase orders directly.
How it changes the reorder amount
What’s on the way is taken off the reorder amount:
Reorder = sales per day × (lead time + cover days) − in stock − on the way
Take the pour-over from how forecasts work: 12 in stock, about 9 days left, reorder 45. With 24 on the way, the reorder is 56.6 − 12 − 24 = 20.6, rounded up to 21. If what’s on the way covers the whole amount, no reorder is suggested.
Why the product stays listed
Status goes by what’s on the shelf, not what’s on the way. The pour-over still has 12 units and about 9 days left, so it stays “Runs out before restock”, now marked “24 on the way”. If the delivery is late, the product is still in front of you.
Once you receive the stock in Shopify, it counts as in stock. The on-the-way note goes away, and the product leaves the list once it’s no longer flagged.
Where you see it
- Dashboard: the On the way column. The Reorder column already has it taken off.
- Email: under the product. A product that runs out before restock shows, for example, “24 on the way, reorder 21 more”. Other products show “24 on the way”.
Stock per location on Pro
Both plans count stock on the way in the store-wide forecast. The per-location lines on Pro look at each location’s own shelf only, so a location can stay listed as short while a transfer to it is in transit. See stock per location.
