Four rules, the same for every product

Nothing is hidden in a model. Any number in the email can be checked by hand.

Sales per day
Half the 28-day average plus half the 7-day average, so a recent change shows up within days, without one odd day swinging it.
Days left
In stock ÷ sales per day.
Runs out before restock
When days left is no more than the product's lead time. Low means within a week of that, or at your low-stock level.
Reorder
Sales per day × (lead time + cover days) − in stock − on the way.

Works on day one, adjusts to each product

Your first digest is ready the day you install, using sensible starting values. Change them in Settings whenever you know better, and give individual products their own lead time or low-stock level, like the one supplier who takes six weeks.

Shopify has no supplier lead-time field, so StockDigest keeps its own for each product.

One product, its own rules

Some products don't fit the store default. Give them their own low-stock level, lead time or supplier, and leave the rest on the store setting.

Counts what's already on the way

Stock in transit to you comes off the reorder amount, so you don't order twice. StockDigest reads Shopify's incoming quantity, which counts transfers that have shipped. A purchase order starts counting once its transfer is marked in transit.

The product stays on the list until the stock arrives, so a late delivery doesn't slip by.

How it differs from Shopify's own report

Shopify's "Inventory remaining per product" report divides stock by average daily sales over the last 28 days. It's a flat average with no lead time, and you open it when you think to check.

StockDigest gives the last week more weight, compares days left with each product's lead time, works out how many to order, and sends the result before you start the day.

Questions

More in the help center.

How much sales history does it need?

It imports your last 60 days of sales when you install, so forecasts work from the first morning. Sales speed uses the last 28 days, with the last 7 counting for half.

What about new products?

A product with only a few days of sales gets a rough forecast that firms up as more sales come in. Products with no sales get no days-left figure.

Does it plan for my busy season?

No. It works from recent sales, so it can't see a season or promotion coming. Raise the days you reorder for ahead of a busy period, or order those products by hand.

Does it add safety stock?

No. If a supplier is often late, give their products a longer lead time. That flags them earlier and raises the reorder amount.

Does it count every location?

Yes. The forecast adds up stock across all locations. Pro stores with two or more locations also get each location on its own. Stock per location
