Install StockDigest and get your first digest
After you install StockDigest and approve its read-only permissions, it imports 60 days of sales, and the only setup is adding who gets the email.
StockDigest works as soon as it’s installed: it imports your recent sales and starts with default settings. The one thing to set up is who gets the email.
Install in five steps
- Install StockDigest from the Shopify App Store and approve the permissions it asks for (listed below).
- Choose a plan. If your store hasn’t picked a StockDigest plan yet, the app takes you to Shopify’s plan page first. Both plans start with a 14-day free trial, billed through Shopify. See plans and billing.
- Let the sales import finish. Until it’s done, the Dashboard shows “Importing your last 60 days of sales”. It usually takes a minute or two, and the page updates by itself.
- Add who gets the email. Go to Settings and scroll to Daily email. Enter an address under Add an email address, click Add, check the address and click Send email. Growth allows 3 addresses and Pro allows 10.
- Confirm each address. Each person gets an email and clicks Confirm emails, then Yes, send me the digest. Nothing is sent to an address until it’s confirmed.

What StockDigest asks for
StockDigest only reads from your store. It never changes your products, stock or orders.
| Permission | What it’s used for |
|---|---|
| Read products | Product and variant names, images, the Vendor field (used as the supplier) and whether a product tracks inventory |
| Read inventory | Stock levels and stock on the way, read live from Shopify |
| Read orders | How many units of each variant sold each day |
| Read locations | Your store’s locations, for stock per location on Pro |
From each order, StockDigest reads only the date, whether it was cancelled or a test, the variants and quantities, and the location. It doesn’t request customer names, emails or addresses, and it doesn’t keep orders, only daily totals of units sold. See uninstalling and your data and the privacy policy.
The 60-day sales import
Right after you install, StockDigest reads the last 60 days of orders, so forecasts work from the first day. Cancelled and test orders are left out, and refunded units don’t count.
After that, the last 7 days of sales are refreshed each morning before the digest. Refresh sales on the Dashboard does the same whenever you like.
If the import fails, the Dashboard shows “We couldn’t import your sales”. Click Try again.
When your first digest arrives
StockDigest makes one digest a day at your digest time: 7:00 AM in your store’s time zone unless you change it. It checks once an hour whether the day’s digest is due.
- If you install before your digest time, the first digest is made at that time the same day.
- If you install after it, the first digest is made at the next hourly check after the import finishes, usually within the hour. If midnight comes first, it’s made at your digest time the next morning.
From then on, it comes at your digest time every day.
The digest is emailed to every address confirmed by the time it’s made. If nobody has confirmed yet, you can open it in Digest history, and emails start with the next digest after someone confirms. No email is sent on days with nothing to report.
Nothing else to set up
These defaults are in place from the start. You can change any of them in Settings under Low-stock rules:
- Supplier lead time: 14 days
- Reorder enough for: 30 days
- Low stock at: 10 units
- Count as not selling after: 60 days
- Send the daily digest at: 7:00 AM
Lead time, cover days and the low-stock level explains what each one does, and how forecasts work shows the math. For an overview of the whole product, see how it works.
